Travelogue: 綺麗な日本 // My Japan Diary Chapter III

Kyoto seems to be an unpopular destination for tourists. Or at least, the areas that we went to were filled with locals and Japanese from neighbouring regions. Why? Is it because people do not understand Kyoto, or do people not prefer the less cosmopolitan city? It is one city with so much hidden charm, so much to discover, so much to take home; and everywhere seemed to be a photo spot.
When we travel to a place, we prefer to see ourselves as visitors than tourists, and we do what the locals do. On our first evening, we opted to do a meal of traditional Kyoto sushi, which is a lot sweeter and served without wasabi and shoyu. It was such a slow and peaceful evening with my love, and we took a stroll along Shijo-dori, stopped at the bridge for these gorgeous photos and sought pleasure in observing the locals - some were riding slowly on their bicycles, some were indulging in kawadoko, and most of them were just lazing by the Kamo River.
It was exceptionally chilly that night, as it was evident from the gush of water currents in the river. Strange enough, I forgot about the cold because the splashing waters were so symphonic and the laughter of the surrounding Japanese were so hearty that it stopped us in our tracks; that was the Kyoto we will always remember.
I still have so many facades of Kyoto to share, and to preserve every bit of my memory, I will update with more travelogues every other day. :)
For now, how do you love my street casuals? This top came just in time for my trip and the crochet detail is too pretty. It cuts off just above the elbow, and has a slimming effect that no girls would say no to. The pink option would have been perfect for a dolly ensemble (speaking of which, I might just get it all the same), but because I wanted to show how easy it is to wear a tapered pants, I picked the white instead. And yes, the pants. Sometimes, I get girls asking me about matching tops to a bold-colored pants, and what better way to answer than to show you how? All you need is a simple top that won't steal the show, and throw on an item or two that will stand out. Tapered pants are meant to fit well, and this pair has a little touch of fun with the black anchor buttons, but you can play it up further - with accessories, with a bag in clashing color (I would suggest orange), with shoes.
You can never be too formal with pants, which is most girls' worry. Choose the right pair that compliments your figure - best if it slims and elongates the legs - and find a shade/ print that does not wash you out. I noticed it is quite a trend here in Japan, and I see so many Japanese in pants - of different colors, florals, and prints. Complete with the large floral crown that Marie darling has so kindly given to me, I spent the evening blending in with the Japanese crowd. Can't wait to share more of my Kyoto outfits!
