Travelogue: 綺麗な日本 // My Japan Diary Chapter I

Only two days in Tokyo and I might just have been too fascinated that I want to stay here forever. Well actually, I've always spoke of how much I want to call Japan home, and though my Japanese is horribly elementary (and rusty now), I would gladly curl my hair, pile on the eyeliner and thicken my false lashes, and strut around Shibuya everyday - like one of those many Japanese dolls I see. Yipe, this obsession is getting serious.
And do you remember I said I was on a quest to slim down? Neither do I. (Haha!)
Now, don't tell me about shedding kilos. Let me maintain my figure and I would be overjoyed and beyond thankful. The food options here is mind-blowing, and that may just be an understatement. Sushi, sushi, sushi. Ramen, ramen, ramen. Tempura, tempura, tempura. I love love love eating Japanese food every meal, every day; no complaints.
And Tokyo brings sweets to a whole new high - the endless Tokyo Bananas and its various renditions, lots of madeleines and financiers in different flavors (I wasn't even that impressed at Paris!), macarons in the happiest pastel shades, Hello Kitty cookies and whatever they can ink the cat on, crepes with all sorts of fillings you can ever think of, stacks and stacks of waffles, Japanese Cheesecakes that no one would ever refuse, tarts with all your favorite fruits, ice-cream in the most innovative flavors, jars of puddings standing seductively on glass shelves (I don't know how the hell they can look seductive but I picked up a Creme Caramel almost right after my first step into Daimaru)... okay, just shut up and take my money! Tokyo is crazy and I'd gladly check in to this dessert asylum!
On a classier note and regaining some sanity, I finally went to Tsukiji Market and the kinds of commodities are bewildering. Fishes that I have not seen before, a gazillion kinds of seasonings and dressings, the daintiest kitchenware... and the most memorable of them all, is my gorgeous bowl of chirashi don. It was the best S$50 I ever spent on a single bowl of sashimi moriawase atop vinegar rice, freshly sliced right before my eyes by the skilful chef. There are several rows of small but authentically comfy Japanese restaurants just a stone's throw from the auction market is, and we settled for Ryu Sushi, one of the most popular ones. If you have the patience, you might want to join the queues at Dai Sushi and Sushi Daiwa - averagely 3 hours each, in case you are wondering.
We also spent some hours at Asakusa, where the famous Senso-ji temple is at. Apart from the quaint little izakayas and rows of traditional snacks shops, we also spotted a handful of Japanese ladies in silk kimonos, giving prayers and getting divination lots - quite a different Saturday from the rest of the world.
And this is why Japan is ever so enchanting.
