Travelogue: 綺麗な日本 // My Japan Diary Chapter V

Said to be the second most visited place in Kyoto, Arashiyama is a breathtaking landscape and work of nature with a history so rich that even the locals flock over to spend a day there. We rose early and caught a morning train, and the scenery along the journey itself was almost, if not just as rewarding.
There at the remote part of the beautiful Kyoto, you will be lost in the rows of Japanese restaurants - from traditional Kyoto sushi, to unagi-dons, to shojin-ryori. Ice cream lovers will also find Japanese matcha and roasted tea cones for ¥300 each. And, take home with you local snacks like mochi and matcha everything.
We also took a walk through the world famous Path of Bamboo (or better known as bamboo forest), and the serenity is one that cannot quite be replicated. While the Path of Bamboo is a magnificent sight with sun rays streaming through the infinite bamboos, the number of mosquito bites we accumulated was no joke and it really deterred us from exploring farther. So, go prepared with insect repellant if you intend to finish the entire path all the way in to the temples.
And of course, the highlight of Arashiyama has got to be Togetsu-kyo, which would have been exceptionally stunning if we had gone in autumn to see it against the sea of maple leaves in the background. As if I do not have enough, this gives me yet another reason to return to Kyoto - for its picturesque autumn.
Wait for me, Kyoto. I will be back, I promise.
