Rosette Rhapsody

Some days as I am getting dressed up, I wonder if anyone would ever be sick of my styles and color choices. I have always thought Singaporeans are mostly conservative, and while I am certainly not a recognized fashionista, I do wish more people had more guts. Of course, I am not talking about strutting down Orchard Road with fishnet stockings and feathers in the hair, nor am I thinking of a mess of prints from head to toe. But, what is so tough about stepping out with a mere coat of red lipstick, or throwing on clashing colors and looking like Crayola's ambassador?
If I was to take a stroll along Harajuku in this outfit of mine, almost no one would take a second glimpse of me. But that afternoon, right here on my sunny island, I caught sight of many who had their eyes on me - not all in the approving way, of course.
I don't know about you, but more often than not, I feel very violated by stares. Sometimes, I even feel like an animal in the zoo, minus the visitor-snapping-photos part. But like B always says, "Why care so much about how people will look at you? If they don't like your outfit, it doesn't make you any less prettier. Just step out in what you like and believe in."
So I braved the passing whispers and countless stares, just to frolic under the blue sky in my princess-like dress.
"Be yourself, because everyone else is taken."
